I Need To Lose Body Fat ASAPPosted on 2013-02-27 00:00:03
Dear Askadoc, I really want to lose accumulated fat around my stomach. Please give me tips on how to lose it without going to the gym. Sincerely, Agnes. Dear Agnes, Thank you for your question. The notion that one can lose fat around the stomach only is a fallacy very common in today’s world. Your body stores fat in a certain pattern that is first determined by your gender (men mostly around the stomach, women around the hips, arms and breasts) and secondly by your specific genes (thus there can be variations between women). This also means that when trying to lose fat, these are last places to lose from. This explains why a lot of women who are trying to lose weight shall lose the bigger breast size (that most want) first and areas like the hips and upper thighs might persist for what seems forever. To lose fat you must consume fewer calories than you are spending. You can either eat less (fewer calories in), eat more natural food that makes you feel more full faster (e.g. beans will make you full fast, but white rice not as much)- less calories in, or do exercise (more calories out). The most effective way to lose weight is to combine all three activities. Then note that you shall lose weight in a specific pattern as determined by your body. Unfortunately in both men and women, the stomach fat comes much, later. Also note that all the sit-ups in the world shall not work to cut fat only around your stomach. There is no such thing as spot reduction. This does not mean you should give up, just prepare for a determined struggle. You can also check on the internet, there are a lot of forums, resources and you tube videos discussing this. Avoid anything that promises a quick solution, magic formula or wonder supplement or pill. If you have a question on nutrition, please ask our nutritionist.
Hi, In Kenya the insurances companies mostly cover for accident and illness. Weight loss surgery is currently still considered cosmetic and an exclusion on a majority of the insurance policies. Regards Dr Torooti Mwirigi10 months ago By:Dr TOROOTI KINAGWI MWIRIGI

Dear John Thanks for your question, and very sorry to hear about your father-in-law.
